Named after the Great Chicago Fire that tore through the city in 1871, the Chicago Fire Football Club is one of the oldest professional soccer teams in the United States. Alan Rothenburg created the MLS in 1993. Four years later, Chicago joined the organization. Chicago’s first game was against Miami Fusion in March of 1998. The Midwest club beat the Fusion 2-0. The same year, they won their first home game against Tampa Bay Mutiny.

Peter Nowak was a star athlete for Chicago Fire back in its early days between 1998 and 2002. He played a total of 114 games, with 26 goals scored and 48 assists made. He appeared in every MLS Cup Playoff for the club, scoring a total of three goals.

Chris Armas played for Chicago Fire from 1998 to 2007 as a midfielder, during which time he played a total of 214 games. He scored a total of 10 goals with the club both in the regular season and in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Carlos Bocanegra played for Chicago as a defender between 2000 and 2003. Out of 87 games played, he made a total of five goals and eight assists. He made one goal and one assist in the MLS Cup playoffs.

Zack Thornton was a Chicago Fire goalkeeper between 1998 and 2006. Out of 265 games played, the goalkeeper has 213 goals against him during his time with Chicago.
